The building

HMYOI Polmont holds young people aged 16 to 21 and is designed for up to 760 people. The site first became a prison in 1911.

The challenge

Riser shafts carry services between floors, and the doors that close them off are part of the building’s fire compartmentation. Polmont needed 77 doors in three sizes, all rated 60 minutes, including 43 large double leaf openings.

The solution

We made every door to the opening size on the schedule.
  • 43 double leaf

    2103 x 1693mm, 60 minute fire rated.

  • 28 single leaf

    2103 x 768mm, 60 minute fire rated.

  • 6 single leaf

    1493 x 893mm, 60 minute fire rated.

Outcome: All 77 doors were made to the same 60 minute rating, in three sizes and both formats.
